Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 19
19. Have you seen the 25th Anniversary Concert? If so, what was your opinion? I am so tired of talking about this.  I disliked it.  There were parts I liked (seeing the costumes up close!), but generally, I disliked it (staging, performers, directing, etc). And I’ve posted my opinion before, so I’m not going to worry about typing it out again, because a bunch of people are just going...

Sewing :'-(
I miss sewing!  I’ve been so busy :(  Haven’t even had a moment to spare. This semester’s nuts… I have morning classes and night classes, must fit in production hours during the semester in the costume shop and scene shop, then I intern at another theater, and have my part-time job, and must squeeze homework and other life things in-between everything… Bleh…...

Spread the Phanlove: Thoughts on Australian LND →
Thoughts on Australian LND Here’s my stream-of-consciousness thoughts I typed while I watched the LND DVD all the way through.  I thought it would be funnier than a stuffy review. LND Thoughts ACT I The sound of the ocean is kind of neat in the opening credits. The captions are quite stupid tho. BEN LEWIS DRAMATIC ORGAN PLAYING He’s got very girly curly handwriting on that score… I like...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 17
17. Whose part do you follow/sing when multiple people are singing? Hmm, probably the Phantom’s parts, because I can’t really sing, and singing some of Christine’s notes just sounds like a cat wailing or a cat getting its’ tail stepped on.  So it’s fun to just be all dramatic and bellow out crazy Phantom lines.

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 16
16. Line you ALWAYS mess up when singing. Carlotta’s Prima Donna bit.  I just start singing jibberish during her Italian parts (or whatever language they’re in).

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 13/14
I’m swapping days 13 and 14 and bringing you 13 after 14. 14. Your favorite ALW Phantom GaryMauerGaryMauerGaryMauerGaryMauer Basically for all the acting reasons in my last post about Gina Beck. And his voice… it is the most beautiful male voice I’ve ever heard.  It’s so clear, and pure.  He has a true talent and special gift.

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 13/14
I’m swapping days 13 and 14 and bringing you 14 first. 14. Your favorite ALW Christine Gina Beck! Before I start talking about why I like Gina so much, I want to point out a few things I’ve learned about acting in my theatrical studies (I’m not an actor, but I’ve had to take acting classes and study actors in detail as well): Don’t play the scene like you already...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 12
12.  Favorite instrumental portion of the score. I already sort of wrote about this in Day 8 so I won’t say much about it here.  I love the Angel of Music theme.  It can be so soft, beautiful, and charming, and sometimes so powerful and moving in the score.

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 11
11. Favorite sung line (Act II) You resist, yet your soul obeys! I have a reason for liking this line, but it’s hard to put it into words.  Sometimes we have passions and desires, which may be good or bad, and sometimes we resist them, but ultimately your soul is going to give in to what it wants.  I relate this line to my love of Phantom… and I’m going to get it tattooed on...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 10
10. Favorite sung line (Act I).  This is more than one line but WHATEVER: Softly, deftly, music shall caress you; Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you… Open up your mind, Let your fantasies unwind, In this darkness which you know you cannot fight! The darkness of the music of the night… I partially like this line because of how a lot of the Phantoms sing it- the way...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 9
9. Your least favorite song in the ALW version. Although I hate to consider the 2004 movie as a version, I absolutely hated that “No One Would Listen” song that they cut from the movie.  Ick. Ack.  Maybe it could be used in a different play.  And seeing as it’s ALW, I’m sure it will be.

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 8
8. Your favorite song from the ALW production. Anytime the “Angel of Music” theme is used.  Particularly in the mirror scene and Wandering Child - my two favorite musical moments in the play!  I love how it can be so light and beautiful and then so powerful in other moments.

7. Your favorite Christine costume. Aminta: It’s hard to pick a favorite Christine costume.  It’s hard to even pick a favorite costume in general - they are all so beautiful!  Even the ones that don’t seem as elaborate as others, are still incredibly elaborate. I love the Aminta dress for many reasons.  I love the mix of historical styles; I love the sultry colors of...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 6
6. Your favorite Phantom costume…. Phantom at the cross / Wandering Child.  I love that hat.  I LOVE that FREAKING hat and I don’t know why.  This is also one of my favorite scenes, sans the wimpy fire-spitting skull staff (Vegas is much cooler, he has fire shooting GLOVES!) although I actually liked what they did in the 25th anniversary UNTIL it reminded me of Tim the Enchanter...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 5
5. Favorite part of the stage show. I have three major favorite parts.  In order of my most favorite, they are: The Mirror Scene Wandering Child Point of No Return (if done well) But I’ll only explain the first one: THE MIRROR SCENE This is my absolute favorite!  The whole tone of the play is changed when the Phantom’s voice bellows throughout the theatre and he makes his presence...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 4
4. Your least-favorite character overall. I have to agree with what wanderingchild posted about this one: wanderingchild: I couldn’t think of one in terms of the ALW stage version, so I decided to stick to the novel and say The Daroga. That man, while his intentions were correct, was far too nosy in Erik’s business and therefore came off as extremely annoying to me, especially in Kay’s novel....

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 3
3. Your favorite minor character. I have two answers to this one: a silly one and a serious one. The silly one goes along with the ALW stage show.  And this character, surprisingly, is not in the Vegas production!  THE RAT CATCHER!  Ever since my first trip to NYC with the Phans in 2011 there’s been a small obsession among us with the rat catcher.   It took me YEARS to figure out why Madame...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 2
2. Your first ALW show and/or your first Phantom; when and where. I saw my first Phantom show in January of 2006 in my favorite city (Pittsburgh!).  I did not have access to “boots” or YouTube vids or anything like that, because I didn’t know about them at that point.  I simply saw some photos of the show online, and loved the albums so much, that I knew I wanted to see the...

Phantom 30-Day Challenge: Day 1
1. How you first learned about Phantom. Let me start off by saying I have a horrible memory of my younger years, combined with “repressing” tons of stuff, so anything I remember in detail before age 14 is pretty awesome or a very strong memory for me! I first learned about Phantom when I was 12 years old.  My music teacher played us the OLC recording during one of our classes, but...
